Repurposing Memories

Repurposing Memories

My sister recently gave me a baby sling she used with both of her kids and asked if there was something I could do with it. My sister is fabulous and always loves a little glitz and glam so I really struggled with what I should do with the material ( it is a lightweight cotton with a bit of wear from use).  She's a hair stylist and always has her hair and makeup just right. So I thought, what does she always have in her purse? A Cosmetic Bag of course! I happened to have picked up a few...

Restoration, A Key to Sustainability

Restoration, A Key to Sustainability

These days I try to find any way possible to reuse old items or jazz them up a bit instead of buying new.  I am so fortunate to be able to have a brand new space to work in.  And when presented with this amazing space, I really had to carefully consider what items I was going to use to fill the space thoughtfully.   So when I was gifted this amazing handmade tool chest (made by my great grandfather, Asa) I knew I just had to use it in the new sewing studio. Then I cut the rectangles into strips. From here I took two of the strips and secured them. Then I twisted them each tightly. After this, I then twisted the two sides together, but made sure I worked in the opposite direction from the direction each individual piece was twisted to ensure the rope didn't unravel.    And...

Reuse, Recycle & Revive: Our Global responsibility

Posted by Renee Jones on

East and Market is dedicated to decreasing our carbon footprint on the environment. We want to reduce the amount of waste we personally have the potential of creating as a business. Recent surveys have found that the average person in America throws away approximately 70 pounds of clothing a year! 70 POUNDS!!! Our Fast Fashion habits really do contribute to filling up those landfills for sure! I know I am guilty of this! It’s so easy to run into the nearest store and grab a shirt for a night out that I may never wear again. The United States E.P.A....
